Unethical Pork Spending by Senator Lisa Murkowski

Ahh. The truth comes out. Pork always has special interests, and in this case, its at its worst when those pushing for more spending are the ones that directly benefit from the expenditure. Shame on Senator Murkowski for using the Senate and the American people to further her personal bank account! Shame!

I support the Fiscal Watch Team Offset Package presented by the U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK) and six senate colleagues, and I hope more Senators line up behind this. Let's stop the waste!
"There are still outstanding ethical issues that have not been addressed. We have voiced concerns about the role that Senator Lisa Murkowski played advocating for the Gravina bridge despite the fact that the project would likely benefit her family personally. Passing the buck onto the State of Alaska doesn't erase those conflict of interest questions. It merely shifts them to her father, Governor Frank Murkowski.

"Given the overwhelming opposition to the idea of wasting federal tax dollars on these projects, state officials would be wise to spend the money prudently. If this ends up being a back door way to pay for the Gravina and Knik Arm bridges, it will amount to a complete betrayal of American taxpayers, not to mention American values."

Advance: Bush's Remarks on the War on Terror

Bush is facing the lies direct. It is about time! This is an excerpt of an advance copy of remarks President Bush will deliver tonight on Iraq, "addressing some Democrats who continue to play politics with the war on terror."
Reasonable people can disagree about the conduct of the war – but it is irresponsible for Democrats to now claim that we misled them and the American people. Leaders in my Administration and members of Congress from both parties looked at the same intelligence on Iraq – and reached the conclusion that Saddam Hussein was a threat. Let me give you quotes from three senior Democrats: First, quote, “There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons.” End quote. Here’s another one, quote, “The war against terrorism will not be finished as long as [Saddam Hussein] is in power.” End quote. And here’s the way another Democratic leader summed it up, quote, “Saddam Hussein, in effect, has thumbed his nose at the world community. And I think that the President's approaching this in the right fashion.”

The truth is that investigations of the intelligence on Iraq have concluded that only one person manipulated evidence and misled the world – and that person was Saddam Hussein. In early 2004, when weapons inspector David Kay testified that he had not found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, he also testified that, quote, “Iraq was in clear material violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1441. They maintained programs and activities, and they certainly had the intentions at a point to resume their programs. So there was a lot they wanted to hide because it showed what they were doing that was illegal.” Eight months later, weapons inspector Charles Duelfer issued a report that found, quote, “Saddam Hussein so dominated the Iraqi Regime that its strategic intent was his alone. He wanted to end sanctions while preserving the capability to reconstitute his weapons of mass destruction when sanctions were lifted.”

Some of our elected leaders have opposed this war all along. I disagree with them, but I respect their willingness to take a consistent stand. Yet some Democrats who voted to authorize the use of force are now rewriting the past. They are playing politics with this issue and sending mixed signals to our troops and the enemy. That is irresponsible.

Venezuela recalls Mexico envoy

Chavez is losing friends real fast! Hopefully, the Venezuelan people wake up to who he realy is, and fire him--that is, if they still can!
Venezuela on Monday ordered its ambassador recalled from Mexico in an escalating diplomatic dispute between President Hugo Chavez and his Mexican counterpart Vicente Fox over regional trade agreements.

The Difference Between French Immigration and US Immigration

Medved hit it on the nail on today's Beyond the News Commentary.
...nearly all immigrants to the U.S. identify themselves as Christian and are able to connect with the majority faith in the nation at large, while newcomers in France are overwhelmingly Muslim--afflicted with the fanatical sense of grudge that afflicts many Muslims everywhere, and deeply alienated from secular France.

Let's not compare the two, when they are very different cases. America has little to fear as far as violence from immigrants. Don't get me wrong: there is a security problem from open borders, criminal gang members entering the country illegaly, and from the small minority of Latino's that are part of the various separatists movements like MECHA and some of the racists values of La Raza. But, thats the key--they are a minority. Let's not resort to scare tactics. Let's stick to truth and continue enacting solutions to our border security, and illegal immigration problems.
