President Recomend Blogs as MSM Alternative

If you where watching the President today, I hope you noticed when he took a question from a woman whose husband had just served 13 months in Iraq.

She talked about how he had come home with positive stories and footage of the progress being made. The woman commented that the mainstream media refuses to tell the good stories and only focuses on the bad. Of course, the comment was met with thunderous applause from the audience. She asked the President how the stories of progress in Iraq will ever make it to the American public when the media refuses to show them.

The President’s answer: blogs! Here is the President’s quote:
“One of the things that we have to value is that that we do have a media… there’s blogs, there’s Internet, there’s all kinds of way to communicate which is literally changing the way people get their information and so if you’re concerned I would suggest that you reach out to some of the groups that are supporting the troops, that got internet sites and just keep the word moving.”

Harry Potter Mania -- Discussion

There is a great discussion going on at WorldMagBlog on the whole Harry Potter mania. Nothing to do with Latinos, I suppose, but I thought I would ad my two cents. A reader commented: I think its interesting how much people want to be in a group that is all connected by some common thread. It says a lot about our desire for homogeny, not always along racial, sexual or religious lines, but also simply based on what we do in our spare time. The interesting thing about Harry Potter fans vs. Star Trek fans is that a vast majority of them are kids who have grown up with the books, or the parents of said kids. I wonder if what sort of effects this will have on them as they get older (and whether or not they will remain HP fans). We live in an obsessive culture.
